NRCS Programs for Nonprofits: Planning, Funding and Technical Assistance

Program: Christine Hall and Gail Bartok from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) within the US Department of Agriculture will share technical and financial assistance programs available to nonprofit conservation stewards and landowners. The session will cover the following programs:

Conservation programs:

  • Conservation practices of interest to the land trust and watershed association community that NRCS can help plan and pay for
  • Funding for plans, including forest stewardship, pollinator, fish and wildlife, others
  • Eligibility requirements and timeline for NRCS programs
  • Contract requirements – what you need to know if you get funded for plan development or implementation of conservation practices

Easement programs:

  • Farmland preservation – how to work with NRCS to access funding
  • Wetland easements – how this program works

Conservation Planning Process:  General primer about this process
Resources Stewardship Tool: Introduction to this new conservation planning web tool under development but will be available for partners’ use (target date 2017)
