Private Equity Models: Success Stories Involving Land Trusts (Road Trip!)

Journey to New York’s Hudson Valley to learn about how land trusts, farmer advocates and private investors are helping emerging farmers gain access to productive farmland. We will board a bus in Rockaway, New Jersey and travel to two New York farms:

Copake Agricultural District, Columbia County 

Bob Bernstein, Northeast Farm Access Managing Director, will talk about how his private equity firm teamed with land trusts to preserve farmland slated for development, revive sustainable agriculture, and bring vibrancy to the hamlet of Copake.

Hearty Roots Farm, Germantown

Lindsey Lusher Shute, National Young Farmers Coalition (NYFC) Co-Founder and Executive Director, will talk about NYFC’s policy work and efforts to connect young farmers with land;
Marissa Codey, Director of Conservation Programs, Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC), will talk about CLC’s Landowner/Farmer Match Program successes;
Jacob Israelow, Partner, Founder and Managing Director of Dirt Capital, will discuss another private equity approach to helping farmers access land in New York and New Jersey.
